CLEVELAND, OHIO — Hiram College softball player and freshman pitcher Alyssa Lane (Randolph/Waterloo) has been named this week’s North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Lane helped lead the Terriers in a two-game sweep against NCAC opponent Oberlin College in their only action this past week. Hiram improved to 18-9 overall and are tied for first in the conference with a 7-1 mark.
Lane pitched a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win against the Yeowomen in the first game of the doubleheader on Thursday, Apr. 21. She struck out a career-high 13 batters in the game and allowed just one hit. The win was Lane’s third shutout victory of the season. She also started the second game of the twinbill and went two innings while giving up a hit and tallied three strikeouts. For the day, Lane pitched a total of nine innings and struck out 16 batters.
For the season, Lane leads the team in every statistical category and also leads the NCAC in strikeouts with 86. In addition, she is tied for the league-lead in appearances with 21. Lane has started 12 of 21 games with three shutouts, a save and six complete games. She has posted an 8-4 record so far this season and has pitched 77 and two-thirds innings.
Hiram is scheduled to travel to Meadville, Pa. for NCAC doubleheader against Allegheny College tomorrow (Wednesday, Apr. 27). The first game is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
