Junior Danny Essel (Euclid) finished second in the 100-yard backstroke to lead the Hiram College men’s swimming & diving team in a tri-meet with Olivet (Mich.) and Wooster on Saturday.

The Terriers (0-5) lost to Olivet (1-3) 110-99 and fell to Wooster (3-2) 159-48.

Essel touched in 1:08.56 for his finish.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Chris Boardman (Westlake), sophomore Jamal Hill(Junipero, Calif./Juniperro Serra), freshman John Kost (Chantill, Va./Westfield) and freshmanKyle Sarver (Parma/Parma Senior) touched first in 1:40.89.

Kost finished third in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 19:08.93 and sophomore Jordan Canevari (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edwards) was fourth in 19:21.31.

Freshman Jonathan Ruiz (Freeport, N.Y.) was third in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard IM in 52.80 and 2:10.74, respectively.

Hill recorded a fifth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.50 and Canevari and Sarver finished fourth and fifth in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:34.10 and 5:35.57, respectively.

Hiram will compete again on Friday, when it hosts Franciscan at 6 p.m.
