The Hiram men’s swimming & diving team fell to NCAC foe Oberlin by a 133-84 score on Friday evening.

The Terriers are now 0-2 on the season and 0-1 in NCAC play, while the Yeomen stand at 1-0, 1-0.

Junior Danny Essel (Euclid) led Hiram with a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching in 1:07.28. He also was second in the 400-yard I.M. with a time of 5:12.40.

Freshman Jory Gomes (Elk Grove, Calif./Consumres Oaks) finished right behind Essel in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.65.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of junior Chris Boardman (Westlake), junior Christian Kelly(Walpole, Mass.), freshman Julian Gilbert (University Heights/Cleveland Heights) and Gomes won in 1:50.84.

Essel also teamed with freshman Jonathan Ruiz (Freeport, N.Y.), Kyle Sarver (Parma/Parma Senior) and Rylan Zeis (Newark/Granville) for a second place finish in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.89.

Ruiz was also second in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly in 24.46 and 59.91, respectively.

Freshman John Kost (Chantill, Va./Westfield) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 11:24.77 and Ruiz was second in the 50-yard freestyle, with a time of 24.46.

Hiram will return to action on November 7, when it hosts Malone and Ursuline in a tri-meet, beginning at 6 p.m.
