Junior Danny Essel (Euclid) and freshman John Kost (Chantilly, Va./Westfield) each won two individual events to lead the Hiram men’s swimming & diving team against Bethany (W. Va.) on Saturday.

The Terriers (0-8) fell to the Bison (9-1) 123-103.

Essel won the 400-meter IM in 5:41.53 and the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:15.52.

Kost touched first in the 100-meter backstroke and 200-meter freestyle in 1:09.82 and 2:13.44, respectively.

Sophomore Jordan Canevari (Vero Beach, Fla./St. Edwards) was second in the 800-meter freestyle in 10:07.86 and was second in the 400-meter freestyle in 4:51.20.

Freshman Kyle Sarver (Parma/Parma Senior) was second in the 200-meter freestyle in 2:14.29, while junior Christian Kelly (Walpole, Mass.) finished second in the 400-meter IM in 5:50.08.

Freshman Rylan Zeis (Newark/Granville) touched second in the 50-meter freestyle in 28.11 and was also second in the 100-meter backstroke in 1:14.53.

Freshman Jonathan Ruiz (Freeport, N.Y.) recorded a second place finish in the 100-meter butterfily with a time of 1:07.94.

Hiram will return to action on January 11, with a road contest at Wittenberg at 1 p.m.
