Hill is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Illinois and the Minority Dissertation Fellow at Hiram. She is in the process of completing her dissertation project “Bearing the Mark, Bearing the Costs: Slavery, Emancipation and Memory in Coastal Tanzania, 1922-2008,” a qualitative study which examines the role of collective memory in the construction of personal and national identities and social relations in the East African country of Tanzania.
