The Department of English and the Lindsay-Crane Center of Writing and Literature announces that the Vachel Lindsay Poetry Prize deadline will be Monday, April 11.
The judge of this contest, Patrick Moran, is a poet, translator, and essayist whose work has appeared in the Boston Review, Hunger Mountain Review, Crazyhorse, Beloit Poetry Journal, North American Review, The Writer’s Chronicle, The New Republic, Poetry Daily, The Iowa Review, and many other publications. His collection Tell a Pitiful Story will be out in Fall 2011. He is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Prizes are as follows:
First Place: $ 300
Second Place $ 200
Third Place $ 100
Poetry in any form on any subject is eligible. The Vachel Lindsay prize is given to the best poem or the best group of two or three poems.
-Submit up to three poems as one .doc, .docx, or .rtf file. Save the file as your last name poetry entry (i.e. smithpoetryentry.doc)
– Include only one poem per page, typed in Times New Roman font.
-Include in a separate document a cover sheet with your name, email, and the titles of poems you are entering.
-Save the document as your last name cover sheet (i.e. smithcoversheet.doc)
-Your name should not appear on the poems.
-You must be a currently registered student in the College (Traditional or Weekend) to enter.
-Submit poems and cover sheets to Sarah Bianchi (firstname.lastname@example.org) by 5:00 pm. Monday, April 12.
Winners will be announced at the English Department party.
