WOOSTER, OHIO  —  The Hiram College men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2011 season today (Thursday, Sept. 1) at the non-scored College of Wooster Invitational in Wooster.  [Men’s 5k Results] [Men’s Four-Mile Results] [Women’s 5k Results] [Women’s 4k Results]

In the men’s four-mile run, senior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) led the way with a time of 23:12.86 and finished 10th overall out of 30 runners.  Junior Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) finished just behind Hengoed with a mark of 23:20.93.  Junior Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) was third in a time of 24:08.39 and sophomore Forrest Reed (Seven Hills/Normandy) had the fourth quickest time for Hiram at 26:15.03.  Rounding out the Hiram competitors in the four-mile event was senior Don Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) with a time of 27:50.35.

Sophomore Manpret Grewal (Parma/Normandy) was the only Hiram runner to compete in the men’s 5k event and turned in a time of 23:45.91.

For the women, five Terriers competed in the 4k event.  Junior Amy Morton (Tacoma, Wash./St. Anthony Village, Minn.) recorded the fastest time for the team with a mark of 22:17.44 and placed 35th of 45 runners.  Senior Christine Bieniosek (Litchfield) was second at 23:52.20 and freshman Sarah Dutton (Columbia, Md.) finished third in a time of 25:26.39.  Freshman Ellen Rochford (Akron/St. Vincent-St. Mary) posted a time of 25:31.39 and junior Elizabeth Haase (Akron/Firestone) completed the course with a time of 25:33.54.

In the 5k run, four Hiram runners competed with sophomore Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) finishing with the top overall time of 27:22.96 and 25th of 28 runners.  Junior Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) was second in a time of 27:29.68.  Junior Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) and freshman Patricia Bohls (Macedonia) rounded out the Hiram competitors with times of 27:43.58 and 27:47.89 respectively.

The Hiram cross country teams will next compete on Saturday, Sept. 3 when the Terriers travel to New Wilmington, Pa. for the annual Westminster College Fisher Invitational.  The first race is scheduled to begin at 10:45 a.m.
