The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the unscored The College of Wooster 5k Challenge.
The Terrier women were led by senior Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights) who ran a time of 22:50 and finished in 24th place of 30 runners. Junior Patricia Bohls(Macedonia) came in second for Hiram with a mark of 23:39 and fellow junior Abigail Staysa (Columbia, Mo./Rockbridge) was third in a time of 24:40. Junior Sarah Dutton(Columbia, Md./Columbia) was fourth to cross the finish line with a time of 24:51. Rounding out the women’s competitors was senior Alexis Alvarado (CHelsea, Mich./Chelsea) and junior Nan Hu (Leshan, China/Lehan Foreign Language) who both turned in times of 26:40.
The men were paced by senior Tomoyuki Fujimoto (Mino, Japan) who ran a time of 17:50 and placed 28th overall out of 44 runners. Senior Dennis Kirimi (Nairobi, Kenya) was second with a time of 18:48 and freshman Anthony Kerrigan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Millenium) posted the third fastest time at 19:22. Senior Anthony Franklin (Newbury) crossed the finish line with a mark of 20:34 to place fourth on the team, while sophomore Francis Sugita-Becraft (Supparo, Japan/Aloha) was fifth with a mark of 20:48. SeniorManpreet Grewal (Parma/Normandy) ran a time of 22:18 and was followed by freshman Bo Kang (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) in a time of 22:51. Junior Jabez Patterson(Chicago, Ill./Noble Street Charter School) completed the list of Hiram competitors with a time of 23:10.
The Hiram cross country teams will wrap-up the 2013 season when the Terriers compete in the NCAA Division III Regional Meet on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Grand Rapids, Mich. The first race is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
