OBERLIN, OHIO — The Hiram College cross country teams competed at the Oberlin College Invitational this afternoon (Saturday, Oct. 16) in Oberlin. The Terrier men placed 30th and the women were 24th. [Men’s Results] [Women’s Results]
The Hiram men finished the event with a team-total of 900 points to place 30th overall out of 31 teams. Allegheny (Pa.) College captured the team title with 66 points and was followed by Elizabethtown (Pa.) College in second with 130 points. Carnegie Mellon (Pa.) University rounded out the top-three with 174 points.
Individually, Hiram was led by junior Joe Hengoed (Seven Hills/Normandy) who posted a time of 26:52.1 and placed 102nd overall out of 284 total runners. Sophomore Chris Pratt (North Canton/Hoover) had the second quickest time for the Terriers at 29:20.3. Freshman Forrest Reed (Seven Hills/Normandy) posted a mark of 29:29.7 and sophomore Bryan Nemire (Berlin Heights/Edison) was fourth in a time of 29:48.6. Fellow sophomore Brendan Curtin (Burton/Berkshire) completed the 8k course in a time of 30:45.5. Rounding out the Hiram scoring times were senior Nicholas Michalenko (Moon Twp., Pa./Our Lady of Sacred Heart) and freshman Sam Ivcic (Maple Heights) who had times of 30:55.2 and 31:36.4 respectively. In addition, junior Donald Daley (Chagrin Falls/University School) posted a time of 34:29.9, followed by freshman David Stonebraker (Girard) who crossed the finish line in a time of 34:53.5. Junior Angel Gonzalez (Los Angeles, Calif./El Sequndo) turned in a time of 35:01.2.
The Hiram women ended the day with 786 total points to place 24th overall of 24 teams. Case was first with 83 points, followed by Rhodes College in second with 117 points. Grove City (Pa.) College rounded out the top three at 160 points.
Freshman Laila Almassri (Parma/Normandy) had the fastest time for the Terriers at 26:40.8 and placed 146th overall out of 219 total runners. Sophomore Megan Orosz (Mentor/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) was second at 29:13.6 and freshman Clarissa Claflin (Mayfield/Mayfield Heights0 was third with a mark of 29:55.9. Seniro Bristena Marinescu (Arad, Romania/Moise Nicora College) completed the 6k race with a time of 31:01.8. Sophomores Natalie Richardson (McConnelsville/Morgan) and Amy Morton (Tacoma, Wash./Sav) completed the list of Hiram competitors with times of 31:35.6 and 33:02.9 respectively.
The Hiram cross country teams will next compete in The College of Wooster relays on Friday, Oct. 22 in Wooster.
