Hiram College

Computer science faculty members at Hiram recently participated in the ACM Symposium for Computer Science Education (SIGCSE ’12).

Louis Oliphant, assistant professor of computer science; Ellen Walker, professor and chair of computer science; and Oberta Slotterbeck, professor emerita of computer science, attended the symposium in Raleigh, N.C., from Feb. 29-March 3.

Walker led two discussions, one called “Imaging College Educators” to discuss issues surrounding teaching computer vision and related courses at four-year colleges, and a second called “Regional Celebrations of Women in Computing (WiC) – Best Practices”, where organizers of past, present and future regional celebrations exchanged ideas.

In addition to course-related materials, Oliphant and Walker picked up great ideas and examples for the first Robotics Academy this summer.
