Children’s book illustrator Robin Brickman will visit Hiram College on March 20, 2014, for a presentation and discussion.
Her presentation, sponsored by the Education Department and the Hiram Community Trust, will take place at 7 p.m. in the library’s Pritchard Room. The presentation is free and open to the public. Brickman will discuss her creative process as an illustrator and how her hands-on workshops help children experience the connection between art and science.
Brickman has illustrated the books “A Log’s Life,” by Wendy Pfeffer, “I am an Artist,” by Pat Lowery Collins, “One Night in the Coral Sea,” by Sneed Collard III and more. She has developed her own creative technique of illustrating: She uses paper, scissors, paint and glue to create hand sculpted three-dimensional images. She teaches a simplified version of this technique in workshops for children and adults, and on March 21, 2014, she will be working with second graders at Crestwood Primary School in Mantua to create a large mural depicting illustrations in “A Log’s Life.”
