As has been the tradition for the past 31 years, students, faculty, staff and community members will have the opportunity to come together to help those in need with a weekly meal of bread and soup.
Bread and Soup begins tonight, January 10, from 5-7 p.m. in Dix Dining Hall. The meal will take place every Thursday of the Spring 12-Week.
The program allows students to elect to eat a simple meal of bread and soup in place of the normal entree at the main Dining Hall. Because the bread and soup costs less to prepare than typical meals, $1 is donated back to local charities and nonprofits.
Bread and Soup began when the late Rev. Thomas Niccolls, former college chaplain, helped students put a program in place to help those in need, after an informal discussion on hunger that sparked an urge to do something about it.
The cost is $5 per person or one student meal swipe. One dollar per person gets donated to charity.
