Katy Hale ’14 is participating in her second study abroad, this time to Florence, Italy, with Associate Professor of Art Christopher Ryan and several other Hiram College students. She will be blogging about everything from the delicious Italian cuisine to the planes, trains and automobiles that are needed to traverse the Italian countryside.
Next: Arriving in Italy

Lists, lists, lists.
Adding, revising, and checking tasks off my lists have been the highlight of my term break. Between packing and unpacking my room at my townhouse, getting prepared for the trip by doing the many (not-so-fun) odd jobs (like ordering Euros at the bank and calling AT&T to sign up for an international phone plan) that are necessary to leave the country for a month, or packing for my study abroad trip, I have been a busy bee this week.
Then, there are the much more exciting lists that I get to create: the art supplies I am taking, the sights I am going to see, the places I could possibly travel to on our days off from class, the list of lists goes on and on!
Of course, the creation of the lists is no hardship because I AM GOING TO ITALY! …Sorry to sound like I’m bragging, but hello?!?! Greatest opportunity EVER, to get to study art in Florence!
From the Duomo, the Boboli Gardens and The Ponte Vecchio, to the beautiful Tuscan towns of Siena, Cortona, Fiesole and Lucca, I will take you with me as I, along with eight other Hiram students and Professor Chris Ryan, explore these monumental spaces.
If you would like to follow our trip even closer, I have set up an Instagram to post photos of the trip, so follow me at globetrotterkaty or on Twitter, @globetrotterkmh. I’m leaving this Friday, April 19.
