Hiram College will hold a Be the Match bone marrow donor registry event in support of Matt Hils, biology professor and director of the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station and Center for the Study of Nature and Society.
The drive will take place on Dec. 19, 2013, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dining Hall and from 4-7 p.m. in the Kennedy Center.
Hils, a beloved colleague, professor, advisor, mentor and friend of so many in the Hiram community, is battling large-cell lymphoma, and his best chance of a cure is a bone marrow transplant; however, he does not currently have a match.
During the bone marrow drive, those from 18-44 may sign up to be a bone marrow donor and join the national registry. Those who cannot join the bone marrow registry can support efforts by making a donation.
