WOOSTER, OHIO  —  The Hiram College baseball team lost both games against The College of Wooster today (Saturday, Apr. 24) in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader Art Murray Field in Wooster.  The Terriers dropped the first game, 14-0, and lost game two, 15-3.  [Game One Stats] [Game Two Stats]

Following today’s doubleheader, Hiram is now 6-27 overall and 1-13 in the NCAC.  The Fighting Scots improve to 29-7 overall and 11-3 NCAC.

In game one, the score remained 0-0 until the bottom of the third inning when Wooster tallied five runs as part of three straight innings that the Scots would put runs on the board.  Wooster went on to add four runs in the fourth and five more runs in the fifth en route to the 14-0 shutout.

Hiram recorded five hits at the plate with freshman outfielder Ian Sewolich (Cleveland/St. Ignatius) and sophomore infielder Steve Dunn (Westlake) each recording a pair of hits.  Sewolich finished the game a perfect two-of-two, while Dun went two-of-three.

Junior Andy Marsh (Orwell/Grand Valley) started the game and went three-and-a-third innings allowing nine runs on eight hits and had one strikeout.  He would be credited with the loss and is now 3-4 overall.  Junior Bubba Thurner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief and gave up four runs on four hits.  Freshman Josh Weber (Lorain/Clearview) pitched the final two innings allowing one run on three hits and struck out three batters.

In the nightcap, Wooster struck early with a run in the bottom of the first and later added four runs in the third and another run in the fourth to lead 6-0.  Hiram got on the board with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth on a RBI single by Sewolich and a defensive error that allowed junior infielder Cody Fincham (Windham) to score, making the margin 6-2.  The Scots then broke the game open with nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a commanding 15-2 lead.  The Terriers scored the final run of the game in the sixth thanks to another defensive error, but Wooster would cruise to a 15-3 victory.

Hiram would find more success at the plate in game two with eight hits led by the duo of Sewolich and Fincham who both finished two-of-three.  Sewolich also added a RBI, while Fincham scored a run.

Freshman pitcher Mike LaLonde (Willowick/South) got the knod in game two, but would suffer his first loss of the season, dropping him to 1-1 for the season.  He allowed seven runs on eight hits, while striking out three batters in four innings of work.  Sophomore Chris Wilson (Geneva) pitched two innings of relief and gave up eight runs on six hits and had two strikeouts.

Hiram is scheduled to conclude the NCAC four-game series against The College of Wooster tomorrow (Sunday, Apr. 25) with another doubleheader at Murray Field.  The first game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
