GREENVILLE, PA. — The Hiram College baseball team was defeated by Thiel College, 7-0, today (Tuesday, Mar. 22) in a non-conference single nine-inning game at Tomcat Park in Greenville, Pa. [Game Stats]
With the loss, the Terriers are now 6-4 overall and the Tomcats improve to 8-4 overall for the season.
Thiel got on the board early with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead 2-0. The Tomcats then went on to add a run in the fourth and two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and eight innings. Seven strikeouts by Thiel hurler Justin Fiorello helped seal the shutout victory with a final score of 7-0.
Junior Torrey Stimson (Hudson/Walled Lake (Mich.)) and fellow junior Lance Townsend (Garrettsville) were the only two Hiram players to record a base hit.
On the mound, senior Andy Marsh (Orwell/Grand Valley) pitched seven innings, but suffered the loss, allowing five runs on 12 hits and had three strikeouts. He is now 1-2 overall on the season. Fellow senior, Bubba Thurner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Brashear) pitched an inning of relief giving up two runs on one hit.
Hiram is scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader against Westminster (Pa.) College tomorrow (Wednesday, Mar. 23) at Cene Park in Struthers. The first game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
