Following today’s outcomes, the Terriers are now 6-25 overall. The Spartans improve to 22-6 for the season.
Case began the scoring early in game one with a run in the bottom of the first inning and two more runs in the third to lead 3-0. Hiram erased the deficit and took a one-run lead crossing the plate four times in the fourth that included a two-run homerun by sophomore infielder Steve Dunn (Westlake), his second homer of the season. But the Spartans answered the Hiram runs with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead at 7-4. The Terriers tallied a run in the sixth on a bases loaded walk by junior infielder Cody Fincham (Windham) and a run in the top of the seventh thanks to a solo homerun by senior All-North Coast Athletic Conference catcher Justin Street (Warren/Howland), his first of the season, to make the score 7-6. But the Street homerun would be the final run for Hiram in the inning as Case hung on for the 7-6 win.
Hiram outhit Case, 9-5, and was by the duo of Street and junior outfielder Doug Adkins (Frazeysburg/Riverview) who both finished three-of-four at the plate. Street also scored a pair of runs and a RBI while Adkins added a run scored.
On the hill, freshman Josh Weber (Lorain/Clearview) started the game and pitched three and two-thirds innings, but would be given the loss dropping him to 1-6 for the season. He allowed seven runs on five hits and struck out three batters. Fellow freshman Mike LaLonde (Willowick/South) pitched two-and-a-third solid innings of relief giving up no runs or hits and had four strikeouts.
In game two, Case jumped out early with three runs in the bottom of the first. Hiram evened the score with three runs of its own in the fourth on a RBI double by Street and a passed ball that allowed two Terriers to score. The Spartans took control of the game with a four-run fifth inning and added two more runs in the sixth to lead 9-3. Hiram scored its final run in the seventh thanks to a RBI double by freshman outfielder Ian Sewolich (Cleveland/St. Ignatius), but Case would go on to win by the final of 9-4.
Fincham and Street led the Terrier hitters with a pair of hits each. Both finished two-of-four at the plate with Fincham adding a run scored and Street recording a run scored and a RBI.
