Four players recorded a hat trick as the Hiram College women’s lacrosse team topped Muskingum by a 15-4 score on Thursday.
The Terriers improve to 3-5 on the season, while the Fighting Muskies drop to 0-7.
In all seven players found the back of the net for Hiram. Junior Rebecca Goetz (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier), junior JoLyn Grover (Flint, Mich./Grand Blanc), sophomore Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, Vt./Lamoille Union) and freshman Sierah Ray (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) all scored three times for the Terriers.
Grover scored two goals in the first 3:09 of the game to give Hiram an early 2-0 advantage.
Osgood would score at the 23:34 mark and Goetz added two consecutive goals to expand the Terriers lead to 5-0.
Hiram continued to increase its lead, getting a goal from freshman Alyse Gillentine(Hartville/Lake) and two from Ray in a 53 second span to make the score 8-0.
After Muskingum got on the board, sophomore Erin Smith (Youngstown/Cardinal Mooney) and Goetz closed out the first half scoring and gave the Terriers a 10-1 halftime lead.
The Fighting Muskies struck first in the second half, but goals by senior LeAunna Martin (Akron/Ellet) and Osgood pushed Hiram’s lead to 12-2.
Muskingum would respond with a goal before Grover and Ray scored exactly two minutes apart to make the score 14-3.
After another Fighting Muskie goal, Osgood capped off the victory with her team leading 17th goal of the season with two minutes left to play.
Freshman Rachel Metcalf (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) made nine saves in goal for Hiram.
The Terriers held a 23-20 edge in shots with Muskingum winning the ground ball battle 24-23.
Hiram will return to NCAC competition on Saturday, when it hosts Wittenberg at Henry Field, beginning at 1 p.m.
