All current students, regardless of major, are invited to enter artwork for the Annual Juried Student Art Show. The entry fee is $1 per piece and there is no limit on entries. Entries are due not later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, in the Art Department Office of the Gelbke Fine Arts Center. Entry forms are available in the Art Office and two forms for each piece must be filled out; make sure that the sale price, if for sale, and/or the insurance value are included on the forms.
Frames are encouraged, but are not required. If not framed, drawings, photographs and prints must be properly matted or mounted. Work must be your own, completed recently (no high school work) and not shown in previous Hiram juried shows.
The juror, an area art expert, will review all submissions, select work for the show and will award over $1,200 in prizes in several categories.
Opening reception will take place March 15, from 5-7 p.m. in the Gelbke Fine Arts Center Art Gallery. Awards presentation will begin at 6 p.m.
Student work can be viewed March 15- April 5.
During exhibitions, the gallery is open 9- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please call to confirm as gallery hours are occasionally subject to change. Please contact Gelbke at 330.569.5304.
Besides the Juried Art Show, there will be a contest for outstanding paper in art history. Two decades ago, a special fund was established by a former art history professor to promote fine art writing in art history. A book prize will be awarded to recognize that achievement. Papers written during the past calendar year are eligible. There is no entry fee and Professor Lisa Safford will judge papers from art, film or photo history class. Papers do not have to be research papers, and only the winning paper can be viewed. Papers can be turned in at the art office or sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than noon on Wednesday, March 2.
