A Hiram graduate is the recipient of this year’s Award of Achievement for the International Society of Arboriculture.
Lauren Lanphear ’79, will be recognized for the award both in Sydney, Australia, and at the ISA Annual Conference and Trade Show, within the next week. He majored in botany and religion at Hiram College, is an ISA certified arborist and owns Forest City Tree Protection in South Euclid.
The ISA, headquartered in Champaign, Ill., is a nonprofit organization devoted to supporting tree care research and education around the world, and the Award of Achievement recognizes ISA members for outstanding work in advancing the cause of arboriculture.
“Lauren’s experience as a past ISA leader shows a strong understanding of our membership,” said ISA President Tim Gamma. “His father was involved in ISA in the early days and Lauren continues to be engaged in a lifelong commitment to arboriculture.”
One of Lanphear’s focuses is on worldwide safety standards among arborists.
“Safety is one of the biggest concerns in our industry,” he said. “We’ve given significant emphasis to it. We started on a project to research global safety standards so we can put together recommendations for a better plan.”
