Hiram College announces its Spring 2023 Lectures in Religion Series, featuring Reverend Allen V. Harris. Harris serves as a Regional Pastor and President of the Christian Church in Ohio. The lecture will be held on January 17, 2023, in the Kennedy Center Ballroom starting at 5:00 p.m.
Harris’ lecture, “Reimagining and Retooling Faith for an Explosive World,” will look at how faith and spirituality have been at the heart of almost every cataclysmic world event and how they have been instrumental in both tearing humanities apart as well as binding us together. The world today seems as unstable as it ever was, and the jury is out on whether religious convictions and spiritual practices are ultimately being employed to save or destroy us. Is a radically inclusive and honest approach to faith the one thing that can hold us together?
Reverend Allen Harris began serving as the Regional Pastor for the Christian Church in Ohio in April 2021. Before that he served as the Regional Minister for the Christian Church Capital Area from 2015 to 2020. Allen also served as Senior Pastor of Franklin Circle Christian Church in Cleveland, Ohio for 14 years where he helped to transform that congregation’s ministry within its richly diverse urban neighborhood just west of downtown Cleveland.
Reverend Allen has years of experience in leading congregations and individuals through Anti-Racism/Pro-Reconciliation, Open & Affirming, and Accessible Congregational processes.
Created with the intention to address the correlation between the pursuit of higher learning and the religious questions of life, the Lectures in Religion series brings both emerging and established scholars, clergy, and faith leaders to campus to engage in intimate and profound conversations with the Northeast Ohio community.
