Tree and Memorial options

An adage goes that we leave a legacy when we plant trees so future generations may enjoy the shade.

Consider leaving a legacy at Hiram College with a donation for the purchase of a celebration or memorial tree. Trees help grow the diversity of our campus canopy, and as a result of the College’s efforts to maintain and improve the tree canopy on campus. Hiram has been designated a Tree Campus through the Arbor Day Foundation and is an officially certified arboretum through the Morton Register.

If you would like to discuss gifting a memorial tree, please contact the Development and Alumni Relations office at 330.569.5415 or email at AlumniRel@hiram.edu.

PLEASE BE ADVISED:
  • Approval for the tree and the wording on the marker must come from Hiram College.
  • You are welcome to have a gathering at the tree per the regulations of the College for gatherings.
  • The College will make the final determination of the species and location of the tree.
  • The standard size for new plantings will be a 2–3-inch caliper tree. Depending on species/variety, height will be around 6 – 10 feet at planting.
  • Trees will be planted in the spring between April and May, and in the fall between September and early November. The College will decide the optimal timing to plant any tree for success.
  • The College will replace any dead or badly damaged memorial tree within two years of planting.
  • Please do not place personal items such as urns, ashes, statues, planted flowers, or plants at or around the tree. Bouquets or loose flowers may be placed at the tree, but the grounds crew will remove them as part of their regular maintenance.
  • Hiram College will be responsible for purchasing trees and utilizing approved vendors.
