New Student Institute – Friday, August 28th – Sunday, August 30th
Late August in Hiram is beautiful and is the exciting time of year when the campus is in full blossom and students will arrive to campus for New Student Institute (Institute). During this three day experience, you will meet other new students as you become more acquainted with life on campus. The weekend will consist of attending several sessions of your First-Year Enduring Questions (FYE) or Interdisciplinary (ID) class, opportunities to learn about campus resources and key support services, sessions on community expectations and safety guidelines, a matriculation convocation, fun social activities, and so much more! There will also be opportunities to get to know your new faculty advisor and key student peer leaders, all of who are excited to help you get comfortable and adjusted to Hiram. Start preparing for a weekend of exciting, fun, stimulating and interactive activities!
Further, your First-Year Enduring Questions and Interdisciplinary class will introduce you to the Hiram classroom and will focus on a unique topic designed to stimulate growth in college-level writing, oral communication and a series of common experiential opportunities. Each class will consist of 12 to 16 students, a trained course assistant, and a professor who teach the class and also serve as your pre-major declaration academic advisor. Institute is a strong Hiram tradition that represents the first step in the transition to college life. We look forward to seeing you in August!
