• What is Hiram Orientation?

  Hiram’s Orientation program will be your first real taste of life as a Terrier. New Student and Transfer Orientation is a time to learn about the Hiram Community, choose your very first classes, and meet faculty, staff, and students who are excited to welcome you to the Hiram College family.

• Where do I go to register for a session of Hiram Orientation?

  Register for Orientation here: http://www.hiram.edu/campus-life/new-student-experience/registration-for-orientation/  The earlier you participate in the Hiram Orientation program the earlier you can visit campus, schedule your classes, and get important information to prepare you for the fall.

• What do I need to bring with me to Hiram Orientation?
  • Driver’s License or other Photo ID – At check-in, you will need to present a valid driver’s license with photo, valid state ID with photo, Passport, or military ID. This helps us verify your identity for your Student ID.
  • Writing Utensils and Notebook – Throughout the program, you may need to complete forms and you may also want to write notes for yourself for asking questions later.
  • Comfortable walking shoes, light jacket/sweatshirt and umbrella – While most programs and events are conveniently located in buildings close to parking, please be prepared to do some walking. Temperatures and climates in some buildings may vary slightly. Weather in Hiram often produces a shower or two; it’s best to be prepared.
  • Positive Attitude! – This is an exciting time and everyone at Hiram is looking forward to your visit!
• What happens if I live 5 hours (or more) from campus, and I cannot attend a summer session of Hiram Orientation?

  If you live more than five hours away from campus, please contact us about Hiram Orientation by calling the Dean of Students Office at 330.569.5233.

• Can my family join me for Hiram Orientation?

  Family members are welcome and encouraged to attend Hiram Orientation; however, it is not required. Many students bring family members while others come on their own. It is up to you. We can guarantee that we will keep them busy, informed, and entertained with a program we have designed just for them. We do not encourage children under the age of 12 to attend Hiram Orientation.

• If I have a disability or me or my guest is in need of accommodation during Hiram Orientation, who do I contact?

  If you are in need of accommodations during Hiram Orientation, please be sure to indicate that on the online registration form. You may also contact us by calling the Dean of Students Office at 330.569.5233. If you have a need for an accommodation during the school year due to a documented disability, please contact the Office for Health, Counseling, and Disability Services at 330.569.5952.

• When and how will I receive confirmation for a session of Hiram Orientation?

  Once the Dean of Students Office receives your completed registration and processes your information, confirmation will be emailed to the personal email address you provided as part of your registration form. Should you need to change your session after a confirmation has been sent, please call the Dean of Students Office at 330.569.5233.

• Do I have to attend all the sessions?

  There are 2 answers to this question

  1. You select one session of Hiram Orientation to attend.

  2. You are required to attend the session of Hiram Orientation, that you selected, in its entirety that day.
• Will I receive my housing assignment at Hiram Orientation?

  No. Students will receive their housing assignments during the first week in August.

• How do I sign up to live on campus?

  Fill out your Housing Contract for either the residential (on campus) or the commuter (off campus) contract for the Residential Education Office.

  Housing contracts filled out before July 1 will be included in the first round of roommate pairing and room assignments.

• Can I turn in my health forms while at Hiram Orientation?

  YES! We encourage you to come to Orientation with as many forms completed as possible. There are two mandatory Health Forms that can be found here: http://www.hiram.edu/new-student/first-year-forms. If you are unable to complete your forms prior to your Orientation session, please mail them to the Hiram College Julia Church Health Center at 6780 Hinsdale St. Hiram, OH 44234 or they may be faxed to us at 330.569.5398. If you have questions you can give the Health Center a call at 330.569.5418

• Do the placement exams count toward my grade? Do I have to take them?

  No, the testing has no impact on your grades and yes, you have to take it. The math test simply provides the opportunity to test into the appropriate level of math for academic requirements. The math placement information can be found here: http://www.hiram.edu/new-student/placement-exams.  Please make sure to review instructions before attempting to complete the exams.
