Dear students, faculty, and staff,

I have the pleasure of sharing with you the highly positive news we received from Apple Inc. last week. Hiram College has been named an Apple Distinguished School for a three-year period, from 2019 to 2022! We have earned this designation thanks to the leadership modeled in Tech and Trekā„¢ and the educational excellence our faculty have demonstrated in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.

As part of a rigorous application process, Executive Director of IT Matthew McKenna and his team partnered with a group of faculty and staff to create and curate myriad materials that would eventually be synthesized into an iBook that we will soon make available to all of you. The team and I wove the chapters together in a coherent and compelling Tech and Trek narrative that underscored the collective efforts of those who brought this story to life.

Tech and Trek has been wonderfully successful, in large part, because it was the brain child of so many of you reading this: the visiting teams who traveled to colleges that implemented their own programs, the Transformers, the Early Adopters, the learning technology team, students who attended our technology retreat and weighed in to early designs, donors who funded it at every phase, and more.

Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership, and excellence. All of these schools use Apple technology to inspire creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking and have documented results of academic accomplishment.Ā Our selection as an Apple Distinguished School affirms the College’s success at fostering an innovative and engaging learning environment.

This designation further strengthens our commitment to prepare students for the world they inhabit today and the one they will lead tomorrow. I hope that you will join us in spreading the word about this great recognition.

Sincerely yours,

Varlotta Signature
