Nursing Major

Samantha (Sammi) Arnold ’24 is in Hiram’s nursing program and serves as a Resident Assistant. She loves taking pictures, walking outside, and working at Blossom Music Center as a nursing assistant. Arnold’s dream has always been to become a nurse practitioner and is planning on pursuing graduate school after Hiram (and getting married!).

One of her favorite classes she has taken so far was “Fundamental Clinical” where she was taught a plethora of nursing skills and experienced her first hospital clinical rotation. “The class allowed me to have an open mind at all times, plus, I loved my professor,” she says. Many of the students in her program are friends and work closely together to help one another with their studies. “The nursing department has allowed me to have many experiences with skills that help me grow towards being successful in my career.”

Arnold was drawn to Hiram’s small campus and close-knit community. Fall is her favorite season and she enjoys the beauty across campus during that time of year. “As a student, Arnold feels Hiram helped her advance her education by providing her with the resources she needed to succeed. She says, “Hiram has a lot of resources available to students such as the health center, counseling, and tutoring that are all for free. Plus, Hiram encourages students to go to events to make friends and feel involved.”

College can be difficult, and Arnold was nervous to make any decision that didn’t feel like the “safe route”. “I came out of my shell so much at Hiram.  I have gotten to know so many people because I attend events and became an RA.  I choose adventure now,” she laughs. If she could give any advice to prospective students, it would be to not be afraid to venture outside of their comfort zone. Arnold says, “Hiram is such an open community where you can be yourself.”
