Pre-Medical Studies Concentration
Through the pre-medical studies concentration, students gain what medical schools look for beyond grades and test scores: medical and research experience, diverse interests, and community service.
Students can concentrate on pre-medical studies in Hiram’s first-in-the-nation biomedical humanities major, or through other science majors listed below. Regardless of their majors, Hiram’s undergraduate pre-medical students are endlessly curious about the field and deeply caring of their peers and future patients.

About the Program
Program Summary
The pre-medical studies concentration is individualized to each student, providing them with an experiential understanding of what they know, a humanizing ability to acknowledge what they don’t know, and critical ways to bridge the gaps.
By providing multiple ways to work toward medical school, the concentration allows each student to maximize their learning based on their strengths and career goals. The biomedical humanities major stresses a holistic understanding of healthcare across settings, while the biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and neuroscience majors provide breadth and depth of healthcare knowledge within the respective scientific area. Hiram’s pre-medical studies faculty can help students choose the major that best fits their interests.
Pre-med students who gain experience in the scientific research required by Hiram’s majors become stronger healthcare providers through self-confidence, collaboration skills, and an ability to communicate empathetically.

“My favorite thing about Hiram is its sense of community. I was never treated like a number, which helped me to develop and define my sense of self.”

Partnership with NEOMED
Hiram College offers aspiring physicians a seamless undergraduate-to-medical school transition in partnership with Northeast Ohio Medical University (NEOMED) in Rootstown, Ohio. The Baccalaureate to M.D. Pathway Program is a non-accelerated combined degree program designed for future primary care physicians.
Hiram College students may apply for the B.A. to M.D. program during their sophomore year, and successful applicants will gain direct admittance into medical school, provided they continue to meet program requirements throughout their undergraduate years. Five seats at NEOMED’s College of Medicine will be available to Hiram College students annually. Students must major or minor in biomedical humanities at Hiram in order to be accepted into the program. Learn more about the admission requirements.
