Communication Degree
Hiram’s rigorous communication major is grounded in a diverse curriculum, providing students with both a well-rounded foundation and the opportunity to tailor the degree with an area of study they’re truly passionate about, such as Health Communication, Public Relations and Sports Communication.
The communication major prepares students for careers in a range of industries and roles, such as health and human services, public relations, sports communication, social media, journalism, advocacy, web and digital media, organizational communication, and advertising.

Program Summary
In accordance with the Liberal Arts tradition, the communication curriculum emphasizes a rigorous theoretical base in the discipline and requisite skills including writing, speaking, critical thinking, and ethical problem-solving in every course. These skills make Hiram’s graduates highly competitive for positions in a wide variety of contemporary organizations.
Hiram graduates are employed in a variety of professional roles across private, public, and nonprofit sectors.

Ways to Get involved
Students who are chosen to support the Strategic Marketing and Media Relations department work side-by-side with the team and play an integral role in content development that elevates awareness of campus programs and offerings. Depending on their area of interest, students may have the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in social media, media relations, proofreading, event planning, photography, video production, graphic design, and web development. Work study and internship opportunities are available.
