2020 Northwoods Freshmen Experience: August 13-19
The Northwoods Freshmen Experience is an six-day adventure at Hiram’s Northwoods Field Station located in the vast wilderness of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The goal is to enjoy the beauty of nature and build a sense of community with your future Hiram College classmates.
During our stay, we will immerse ourselves in the vast wilderness in and around the College’s rustic camp. Days will be filled paddling, hiking, swimming and reflecting. Field trips to stunning sandstone cliffs of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and crystal clear waters of Lake Superior are included! Be prepared to enjoy long days of outdoor activities.
Participants will arrive at Hiram College on August 13 for dorm check-in and a cookout and gathering at the James H. Barrow Biological Field Station. The adventure begins early the next morning as we depart for the wilderness of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We will drive part of the way and tent camp overnight arriving at the Northwoods Field Station on August 15. We will return to campus the evening of August 19. First-year Institute begins August 20.
