ONLINE DEGREE SUPPORT SERVICES
A Hiram academic experience isn’t just a bunch of classes. It’s a powerful combination of what you learn in and outside of class and how ideas introduced in one place help you understand concepts in another. Online@Hiram gives you access to the same quality instructors, support, and curriculum as our on-campus students. The only difference is that you’ll access your classes and resources from anywhere with an Internet connection.
Here are some of the support services that make our online programs a great fit for so many students:
Academic Support
ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES (TUTORING)
Student Academic Services provides peer-tutoring, study groups, mentoring, and study skills workshops. Free tutoring is available to all students. All tutors, who have taken and passed the course with an A or B, are hired and trained by professional staff.
- One-on-One Tutoring: One-on-one tutoring services are available to online students. Students meet with their one-on-one tutor throughout the term during a one-hour scheduled weekly day and time.
- Academic Resource Center at Hinsdale (ARCH) Tutoring: Drop-in tutoring that occurs Monday-Thursday from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. throughout the 12-week on-campus. All Hiram College students may drop in at any time to ask questions and receive assistance with course material and study skills.

WRITING CENTER
Through the Writing Center, you can meet with a peer writing assistant, and receive feedback on papers before handing them in. Trained peer Writing Assistants are ready to help you with papers at any stage in the writing process. While we have no set regular hours in the Writing Center for our online students, you can still schedule an appointment or set up a virtual appointment with a Writing Assistant.
Students who wish to work with a Writing Assistant should send a tutoring request to writingcenter@hiram.edu. The request should include, if possible:
- A copy of the document the student wishes to work on (preferably in Word format: .doc or .docx)
- A copy of the prompt (the assignment the professor gave to students in the class).
- Information about whether you would like a virtual (e-mail/Zoom) or face-to-face appointment.
Writing Assistants should respond in approximately 24 hours (longer on weekends) in order to set up an appointment.
Writing Assistants are trained and experienced peer writing tutors available in the Writing Center, the ARCH, the library, and online to help you with papers at any stage in the writing process. We have tutors from a variety of majors, so don’t be afraid to ask for help with papers from any discipline.
