The “Hiram Howl” Pep Band is a high-spirited music ensemble that performs at a variety of campus athletic events throughout the year. Pep Band students will learn about and perform a diverse repertoire of music including pop, rock, classical, and more. Students will learn to improve their instrumental skills, as well as develop the skills needed to be a successful ensemble member. The Pep Band is open to all students with prior experience in High School Band. All majors are welcome, and no audition is required. In the past, we have also hosted a student-led flag team! Typically, the band meets every Friday evening during the 12-week semester and is instructed by Professor Michael Waddell.
The Wind Ensemble is open by audition to all Hiram College students and to community members. Auditions are held the first week of the semester. The Wind Ensemble rehearses and performs wind ensemble works from many diverse genres of music. Typically, the ensemble meets every Monday and Wednesday during the 12-week semester and is instructed by Professor Michael Waddell.
The Chamber Orchestra is open to all Hiram students and community members. The Chamber Orchestra rehearses and performs string symphony works from classical repertory. This ensemble is interest-based and directed by Timothy Staron. Beginner or advanced students can sign into individual lessons or orchestra. All students have a unique opportunity of learning violin in a beginners group setting. Experienced string players are encouraged to participate in the Hiram Chamber Orchestra which draws upon the talents of the Hiram faculty and student body, area community musicians, and gifted students from numerous public school districts.
The Jazz Ensemble is a small group of students and community members who are wiling to make music together in the Jazz style. Students are typically invited to join after participation in another ensemble at Hiram College. Members may use percussion, string, or wind instruments.
