The James H. Barrow Biological Field Station is proud to partner with several local organizations. Student interns have the opportunity to spend time at partner locations for field research and hands-on work.

The James H. Barrow Biological Field Station and the Akron Zoo have partnered to study two endangered species: the white winged wood ducks and the Madagascar teals. Zoo staff work with staff and interns at the Field Station in order to monitor the study. The zoo provides internships for Hiram students and veterinary care for some injured birds.

The Medina Raptor Center is a federally and state licensed facility dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of birds of prey. The Medina Raptor Center provides internships for Hiram College students and supports the rehabilitation efforts of raptors at the Field Station.

Penitentiary Glen Reservation is part of the Lake Metroparks and features 424 acres of forest, fields and wetlands, and more than eight and a half miles of hiking trails. The reservation provides internships for Hiram College students and support to the Field Station for their rehabilitation efforts with birds and other animals.

Sylvan Heights Bird Park, located in North Carolina, is an 18-acre facility featuring large, walk- through aviaries displaying birds from South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. Field Station staff and interns visit the facility for educational purposes, and the park is a partner in the white winged wood duck study.

Portage County Soil and Water Conservation District is an agency responsible for protecting the natural resources within Portage County and provides local leadership, education and technical assistance. The Field Station supports their efforts and partners with them in the maintenance of and data collection for the Ohio State Phenology Garden.

Additional Partners
The James H. Barrow Biological Field Station also partners with agencies and organizations such as the Audubon Society, the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Davey Tree and the Davey Resource Group, and Portage and Geauga Parks to complete conservation and preservation projects.
