Varlotta, Okuma Meet with Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, Cleveland

Dr. Lori Varlotta, president of Hiram College, Dr. Liz Okuma, vice president and dean of students, and Ms. Leslie Skyba, executive director, American Friends of IDC met with representatives from the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh on April 24. The group discussed concerted efforts to further enhance Hiram’s richly diverse student population by recruiting a larger number of Jewish students.

The discussion continued the next day, when the same officials were joined by Adam Hirsh, Executive Director, Hillel at Kent State University and advisor of Hiram College’s Hillel; Chris McCreight, Hiram’s chaplain; and Ms. Debbie Klein, assistant managing director of community relations, Jewish Federation of Cleveland. This group of campus and regional leaders discussed Hiram’s plans to grow the Hillel chapter at Hiram and to offer students the opportunity to participate in a new exchange program between Hiram and the IDC, Herzilya (a private university outside of Tel Aviv, Israel). This exchange allows Hiram students to study in Israel for a semester or a year.
