Colleen Clayton grew up in a small, suburban town just outside of Cleveland, Ohio. After graduating from Kent State University, she worked as a social worker in residential treatment centers for troubled teens and as program supervisor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mahoning Valley. She earned an M.F.A. through the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts program and currently teaches fiction writing at Youngstown State University. She writes contemporary young adult stories and frequently speaks at libraries, schools and other venues on the topics of sexual assault awareness, eating disorders, personal safety, bullying, women’s issues and literacy and creative writing. Her novel, “What Happens Next,” was reviewed by “Kirkus,” was an Ohioana Book Award Finalist in 2013 and was selected as a Choose To Read Ohio pick for 2015-16.
