The staff
Each camp will feature the Hiram College coaching staff, local and area high school coaches, and select college players. We take great pride in teaching fundamental basketball and want our campers to learn from the best.
The facilities
Camp is held at Hiram College in the Coleman Sports Center, with sessions in Price Gymnasium, Fleming Fieldhouse, and Martin Fieldhouse.
All campers and counselors are housed in Hiram College dormitories, two to a room. All roommate requests will be honored as specified on your registration form.
Medical treatment
The athletic training room is readily available and Robinson Memorial Hospital is only twenty minutes from campus. Every camper must have accident insurance.
What to bring
Campers should bring towels, wash cloths, soap, personal hygiene items, sheets, blankets, pillows and cases, shoes, socks, t-shirts, shorts, a fan, and an alarm clock.
Meals
Each camper will receive all-you-can-eat meals at Miller Dining Hall, the college cafeteria. Meals will begin on Saturday with breakfast and end with breakfast on Sunday. Friday’s dinner will be provided by Domino’s pizza of Garrettsville, Ohio. A camp store will be available for the purchase of shorts, t-shirts, and snacks on a cash basis.
Camp director and head coach
Andrea Preston is in her first season as head coach of the women's basketball team at Hiram College in 2007-08.
Preston comes to Hiram from Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, where she was the head women's basketball coach for the past two seasons. At Clarkson, Preston coached two honorable mention All-Liberty League players, nine players who were named Academic All-Liberty League, one first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American, and nine athletes who earned Liberty League weekly honors.
In addition to coaching at Clarkson, Preston was a graduate assistant at University of Wisconsin, La Crosse (2002-04) and an assistant at Earlham (Ind.) College (2001-02). In 2004, she served in an administration position with the Minnesota Lynx of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Preston is a member ofthe Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY), and the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators (NACWAA). In addition, she is a graduate ofthe NCAA Women Coaches Academy and Dimension 2.
Preston is a 2001 graduate of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where she earned a bachelor's degree in health and physical education. She was a member ofthe women's basketball team, earning two varsity letters, and was a four-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Preston earned a master's degree in exercise and sport science with an emphasis in sport administration from the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse in 2004.
Allison Kern joins the women’s basketball staff in 2007-2008 as the Terriers’ top assistant. Kern earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science and added a minor in sociology from John Carroll University in August 2007.
As a student-athlete at John Carroll, Kern was a four-year member of the women’s basketball program. As a junior she earned the Heart and Courage award and was the JCU offensive player of the year as a senior. Along with her team accolades, she also earned honorable mention All-OAC for her efforts her senior year. Kern was also a three-year letter winner in track and field.
Kern’s achievements were not limited to the hardwood, as she was elected by her peers to serve a two-year term as a class senator. As a senator, she was responsible for the first student–organized voter registration drive and also took a leadership role as the chair for the University Food Service Student Advocacy Committee. Kern was recognized with the JCU Internal Organization ofthe Year Award as the chairman of the Dining Committee.
Kern is a native of Dayton, Ohio where she attended Chaminade-Juliene High School. While a player for Chaminade-Juliene, her high school team was ranked as high as No. 1 in the nation her junior year and won the Ohio State Championship her senior year.
