Adventure Expeditions (Outdoor camping trip)
Dates July 18 - 20, 2014
Age: Rising sophomores, juniors and seniors, with preference given to juniors and seniors
Explore a personal connection to nature through hiking, camping, canoeing and kayaking expeditions into remote back country regions. Expeditions are designed to challenge participants both physically and emotionally through group discussions and journaling on topics such as identity, self-motivation, community-living, leadership, wilderness skills, and communication. 3-8 day expeditions are planned throughout the year to spectacular natural areas in the Midwest.
Hiram College will award a $1,000 scholarship to every high school student who attends a 2014 summer academy and enrolls as a full time student at Hiram College. Renewable up to four years. (Potential of $4,000 total in scholarship award.)

Where is the Adventures Expeditions?
The Adventures Expeditions will travel to unique natural areas across the midwest.
The 2014 Adventure Expeditions is aimed at high school students who are rising sophomores, juniors and seniors with preference given to juniors and seniors. Please submit one registration form and one payment per student.

Cost and Payment Arrangements
The total cost for the Adventure Expeditions academy will be dependent upon the location and nature of the trip. Meals, housing and all activities associated with the academy are covered in this price. The online registration form is linked to two online payment options. Payment arrangements include:
Online by Credit Card: Hiram College accepts American Express, Discover, and MasterCard. When paying by credit card, please note that a 2.5% convenience fee will be included in the total amount charged.
Online by Electronic Check: There is no convenience fee when paying by E-check.
Other Requirements for Participation
Reference: On the registration form, students are asked to provide the name, title, telephone number and email address of a teacher or guidance counselor who is willing to serve as a reference on their behalf. We assume that references are aware that students have used their names and that they may be contacted.
Register Early! Space is Limited!
The first applicants to complete the registration process in its entirety and submit their full payment will be considered for acceptance. High school students who are rising sophomores, juniors and seniors are welcome to register with preference given to juniors and seniors. Spaces will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
The deadline for registration is May 30, 2014. Interested students are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
Notification of Acceptance
Once students have registered and paid in full, their registration materials will be reviewed by the faculty leading the academy. As soon as a student has been approved, Lisa Schneider will send out an email notifying the student that he or she has been accepted to attend.
A week or so before Adventure Expeditions, students will receive via email a link to materials for the academy including:
- Adventure Expeditions Schedule
- Emergency Medical Form (must be signed by your parent or guardian in order to participate)
- Directions to Hiram College
- Campus Map
- List of Items to Bring with You
Full payment must accompany registration to be considered for acceptance. A full refund will be issued for those students not accepted into the academy. Students who choose to withdraw at least three weeks prior to the first day of the academy will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be made after that date.
