Camp Director

Carl Capellas, head men's soccer. Coach Carl Capellas enters his fifth year at the helm of the men's soccer program. In the short time he has been here, Capellas' teams have improved each year, becoming a top team in the Great Lakes Region of the country. Capellas has proven to be a tireless recruiter, attracting top local, regional, national, and international talent to Hiram. Capellas recruits top talent, both athletically and academically, noted by the men's soccer team earning the NSCAA Academic award the last three years.
Prior to coming to Hiram, Capellas was an assistant coach at Case Western Reserve University, working with all facets of the program. He also directed the GFS Premier Soccer Club in Brimfield, Ohio for four years, leading the team to a number one ranking in the state, and earning Coach of the Year honors on multiple occasions.
A four-year letter winner and starter at Division I Marshall University, Capellas was a two-time captain for the Thundering Herd, an Academic All-American candidate, and the school's Student-Athlete of the Year in 1997. He also studied at the Universidad Nebrija in Madrid, Spain.
After graduating from Marshall in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in political science and Spanish, Capellas played professionally in the United States and Greece for two seasons, before returning to Marshall to work as an assistant coach with the soccer program.
While completing his master's of public administration degree, Capellas worked with both the men's and women's teams, recruiting the top class in school history; one that featured a two-time conference player of the year and ten players that led the team to a top-25 national ranking on the men's side.
A native of Warren, Ohio, and graduate of Howland High School, Capellas also coached the boys' team at St. Joseph's High School in Huntington, West Virginia, to a 20-1-1 overall record, season-long #1 ranking, and a state runner-up finish in 1998. He also coached state championship club teams in West Virginia and currently serves as an Ohio North state team coach for boys born in 1992.
