Even though you have been working for many years, you may not have needed an updated professional resume and cover letter. It is critical that your employment documents demonstrate your past experience but also stress your education and the transferable skills you hope to use in a new or improved career. Also resumes no longer include personal information so you should be sure to know the basic rules for a contemporary and professional resume.
The Career Center has a special publication, Career Resources for Adult Students, with examples of resumes for adults with extensive previous work experience. It is available in the literature rack outside the Career Center.
When you have completed a draft of your resume, you may benefit from feedback. Although an appointment is preferable, you may also stop by the Career Center on Weekend College Saturdays between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for suggestions, or post it in your account in Hiram CareerNet, our online employment database where it will be reviewed by Career Center staff.
