Residence Hall Safety & Security Measures
In 2006, the residence halls moved away from exterior keys for doors and a swipe card access system was installed. Resident students use their college issued identification card to gain access to their residence hall; traditional metal keys continue to be issued for room access.
Entrances to the Residence Halls are locked 24 hours a day however, residents may use their ID card to gain entrance into their residence hall. Non-resident students should utilize the exterior phones to contact the guests they are visiting.
Exterior doors are not to be propped at any time, for any reason. Propped doors jeopardize the safety and possessions of all students. Students should also lock their room doors at all times. Hiram College does not insure the property of residents, so students are encouraged to carry personal insurance on their belongings. Many homeowners' policies will cover such belongings; students and families are encouraged to check their policies.
