Nursing at Hiram

Hiram Student Nurse Association

Two students in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, Javonne Woodland ’11 and Kati Schaechterle ’11, thought that the B.S.N. students would benefit from the support and guidance of their peers who went before them. So, they developed the Hiram Nursing Student Association to promote the support and interaction of nursing students.

“Its purpose is to promote the support and interaction of student nurses,” explained Woodland. “Because we are the first students at Hiram to take the nursing courses, we don't have tutors available to help us in our classes. The primary focus of this group is to bring nursing students together and provide help to the students that need it.

“I really enjoy being the first to do things, so coming to Hiram to join the new nursing program was a nice fit,” Woodland said. “The only drawback of the new program, in my opinion, is that we as students didn't really have the tutoring,” support and guidance of those who were already familiar with the program she concluded.

Combine a couple of motivated students with the desire to fix a need. Problem solved!
