Institutional Review Board (IRB)

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is a campus wide committee established to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects in research studies conducted at Hiram College. The IRB has the authority to approve, require modifications in, or disapprove all research activities that fall within its jurisdiction. Approval or disapproval of a research protocol is based only on whether or not human subjects are adequately protected. It is not the responsibility of the IRB to assess the scientific merit of proposed studies, however, the potential benefits of a study will be considered in relation to the costs or potential risks to participants.
