Visiting Assistant Professor, Accounting
Richard J. Mole, CPA, CMA is a member of the Economics/Accounting/Management department. He specializes in financial income taxation as well as other upper division accounting courses. Mole has been a member of the Hiram College faculty since April of 2013.
Mole received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He holds active public accounting licenses from both the State of Ohio Accountancy Board and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of State.
He also holds national designations of Certificate in Management Accounting (CMA) and Certified Financial Manager (CFM) from the Institute of Management Accountants. Mole holds a Certified Global Management Accountant (CGMA) from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He also holds a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning (CSEP) and a Certified Specialist in Retirement Planning (CSRP) designations from the National Institute for Excellence in Professional Education. Mole is a member of the AICPA, both the Ohio Society of CPAs and the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs as well as the IMA.
He is the moderator of the Student Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (Cleveland East) as well as the moderator of the Hiram Tax Volunteers, a student group that prepares individual income tax returns for the public at no charge. He is a Director of the Andover Bank and a member of its Audit and Investment committees. Mole is also a Director of the bank's holding company, Andover Bancorp, Inc.
He is a member of the Notre Dame Club of Cleveland and the Stephen Theodore Badin Guild of the University of Notre Dame.
Prior to coming to Hiram College, Mole was a shareholder and senior vice president of S. R. Snodgrass, A.C., a regional public accounting firm. He had founded a public accounting firm in Andover, Ohio and successfully ran it for 23 years before the firm's merger into Snodgrass. Mole was a fifth generation business owner.
He was very active in community activities throughout Ashtabula County during his residency there. Mole has been extensively honored for his volunteerism: 2010 Living Legacy Community Impact Award from ACMC Healthcare System, 2006 Ohio Society of CPAs Public Service Award, 1993 Outstanding Community Leadership Award from the Ohio LEADERship Conference, 1992 Best in the County Award from the Growth Partnership for Ashtabula County and the 1986 Quality of Living Award from the Pymatuning Area Industrial Development organization.
Mole is a Library Trustee, Emeritus of the Andover Public Library, a Honorary Life Member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club and was a graduate of the 1989 charter class of LEADERship Ashtabula County. He and his family are Lifetime Members of the Friends of the Andover Public Library and the Kinsman Friends of the Library.
He is a 1969 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School, Elyria, Ohio where he is a recipient of their 2009 Distinguished Alumni Award and a member of their Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame.
Mole resides in Northfield Center with his wife of 38 years, Kathy. They have two grown children. Their son, Kevin, is a History, Government and Economics teacher at Scio Central School in Scio, New York where he is also the Head Varsity Baseball Coach. Their daughter, Eileen, lives in Westlake, Ohio and is a lead recruiter for the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
Kathy, Kevin and Eileen are teachers, are retired teachers and/or have masters degrees in Education.
