Arts at Hiram

Students studying the arts at Hiram have the opportunity to develop their technical skills in the classroom and explore their creative skills through various venues on campus.

At Hiram, the arts are for everyone. Walk across campus, mornings or evenings, weekdays or weekends and you will hear music pouring from the practice rooms. Take a trip to the Gelbke Art Gallery, where you'll find exhibits featuring local artists. Take in a performance by the theatre arts department – or perhaps audition for it yourself! Hiram students enjoy a rich cultural life.

Gelbke Art Gallery

The Fine Art Center features 26,000 square feet of studios, classrooms and galleries. The 1,200 square foot Gelbke Art Gallery provides the opportunity for students to gain experience through exhibiting their works in the annual spring juried show and by working as gallery assistants for visiting shows.

Music Ensembles

From the Jazz Ensemble and Concert Choir to the African Drum Circle, there's truly a musical ensemble for everyone at Hiram. Ensembles perform throughout the year; they are open to anyone, though some require an audition.

Student Organizations

Hiram students, regardless of major, have the chance to join a number of student organizations related to the arts, including the theatre guild, dance team and Terrier Sound Marching Band.

Study Abroad

Arts students can participate in a number of study abroad programs. Recent trips that may be of interest include Studio Art in Italy, Art History in Japan and Music in Ireland.

Theatre Arts Productions

Each year, the Renner Black Box Theatre is home to four main stage productions, blitz theatre, and several student-directed projects.  Students coordinate and manage every facet of these productions, including publicity, box office, set construction, costuming and acting.  Majors and non-majors alike, regardless of class year, are encouraged to audition and often earn leading roles.
