The Hiram College women’s soccer team battled Kenyon College to a 1-1 tie in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at Charles A. Henry Field on senior day.
Kenyon (4-9-2, 2-3-1 NCAC) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard with a goal just 2:17 into the game from Madi Mim to give the Ladies a 1-0 lead. The lone goal was all the scoring after the first 45 minutes as Kenyon maintained a one-goal edge at the break.
In the second half, the lead remained a goal for Kenyon until the 71:59 minute mark when Hiram (8-6-2, 1-4-2 NCAC) netted the game-tying goal from freshman Abbey Rowe (Mt. Orab/Lynchburg-Clay) and an assist from fellow freshman Bailey Norton (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls). Neither team could score the game winner in the final minutes as the score remained deadlocked at 1-1 after regulation.
Hiram recorded the only two shots in the first overtime period, but neither would find the mark, as the game would go into a second overtime. In the final overtime period, Kenyon outshot Hiram, 2-1, but again the two teams were held scoreless resulting in the 1-1 tie.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) started in net for Hiram and played all 110 minutes. She is now 7-6-2 overall for the season with today’s outcome after allowing the lone goal and posting six saves.
Hiram will host Carlow (Pa.) University on Monday, Oct. 28 in a non-conference game and home finale at Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
