ANGOLA, IND.  —  Freshman midfielder Alaina Giesen (Medina/Buckeye) scored two goals for the second consecutive game as the Hiram College women’s soccer team shut out Trine University, 3-0, today (Sunday, Sept. 12) in a non-conference game in Angola, Ind.  [Game Stats]

With the win, the Terriers improve to 3-2 overall and the Thunder fall to 1-4 overall for the season.

In the first half, Giesen scored the first goal for Hiram, and her first of the game, at the 29:17 minute mark to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead.  In the final minute of the period, the Terriers struck again with an unassisted goal by sophomore midfielder/forward Stephanie Takeuchi (Milton, Ontario/E.C. Drury) to increase the lead to 2-0 at halftime.  Takeuchi’s goal was her team-tying high fourth of the season.

In the second half, Hiram added an insurance goal with Giesen’s second goal of the game, which now ties her with Takeuchi for the team lead in goals scored with four, late in the half at the 85:11 mark as the Terriers went on to win by the final of 3-0.  Senior midfielder Kendra Dean (Chesterland/West Geauga) was credited with an assist on Giesen’s second goal, her team-leading third assist of the season.

Hiram will look to keep the momentum going when it hosts Baldwin-Wallace College on Wednesday, Sept. 15 in a non-conference game at the Hiram Soccer Complex.  The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
