Freshman Abbey Rowe (Mt. Orab/Lynchburg-Clay) scored what would be the only goal as the Hiram College women’s soccer team fell to DePauw (Ind.) University, 2-1, in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener in Greencastle, Ind.
Depauw (4-4, 1-0 NCAC) scored the only points of the first half with the duo of Emma Ueland and Chloe Jacob connecting on two occassions at the 15:56 and 26:57 minute marks as the Tigers had a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
The lead remained two goals for DePauw until late in the second period when Hiram (5-2, 0-1 NCAC) ended the possible shutout with Rowe’s goal during the 87th minute with an assist from junior Anna Cicchinelli (Stow/St. Vincent-St. Mary). But the Terriers failed to net the game-tying goal in the final minutes as DePauw hung on for the 2-1 victory.
In goal for Hiram, sophomore Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) played all 90 minutes, but suffered the loss and is now 5-2 overall for the season. She allowed the two goals and had five saves.
Hiram will look to ends its mini two-game losing skid when it hosts Marietta College in a non-conference game on Thursday, Sept. 26 at Charles A. Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
