The Hiram College women’s soccer team was defeated by Otterbein University, 4-2, in a non-conference game at Charles A. Henry Field.
Otterbein (4-3-1) scored two goals in the first half, scoring its first at the 24:16 minute mark to take a 1-0 lead. Hiram (6-3) evened the score at a goal apiece on an own goal as the result of a play in front of the net that ended in the Cardinal defender kicking the ball into the net on an attempted clear. Otterbein regained the lead just before the end of the half during the 40th minute to lead 2-1 at the intermission.
In the second half, Hiram tied the game at 2-2 at the 50:52 mark with a goal by sophomore Michaela Edmond (Sherman, Conn./New Milford) and an assist from freshman Alison Cowell (Bridgeton, Mo./Duchesne). But the Cardinals tallied the final two goals of the game with what would be the game winner coming at the 54:04 mark and then sealed the victory with another score during the 72nd minute en route to the 4-2 final.
In net for Hiram, sophomore Kailie Reed (Wadsworth) played all 90 minutes, but suffered the loss and is now 6-3 overall for the season. She allowed four goals and had seven saves.
Hiram will host Heidelberg University in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Henry Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
