HIRAM, OHIO — The Hiram College women’s soccer team lost to Denison University, 5-0, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game at the Hiram Soccer Complex.
Denison (4-9-2, 3-2-1 NCAC) scored the only goal of the first half, just 5:54 into the first period when Libbie Randolph found the back of the net with a helper from Andrea Witte to give the Big Red a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Big Red picked up the offense in the second half outshooting Hiram (4-10-2, 1-6 NCAC), 11-1, and would record four goals. Witte got the scoring going with an unassisted goal at the 61:34 minute mark. Jocelyn Festle tallied the next three goals for Denison with her first during the 70th minute with another assist from Witte to make the score 3-0. Festle recorded her other two goals at the 84:59 and 87:28 marks to complete the hat trick and send the Big Red to a 5-0 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Kate Valaiitis (Lewis Center/Olentangy) started the game in net for Hiram and played all 90 minutes allowing five goals and posted seven saves. She would be credited with the loss and is now 2-6-2 overall for the season.
Hiram will travel to Gambier for a matchup against Kenyon College in the NCAC regular-season finale on Tuesday, Oct. 23. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
