The Hiram College women’s lacrosse team was defeated by Thiel (Pa.) College, 17-4, in a non-conference game in Greenville, Pa.
Thiel (1-5) wasted no time getting on the board, scoring its first goal at the 29:32 minute mark of the first half. The Tomcats went on to add four more scores before sophomore Hannah Schaefer(Kent/Roosevelt) tallied Hiram’s (1-3) first goal with 16:18 left in the period to make the score 5-1. Thiel scored the final seven goals of the opening half to extend the margin to a commanding 12-1 heading into the locker rooms.
Following a goal by Thiel to open the second half, Schaefer found the back of the net again for her second goal of the game at the 19:10 mark to make the score 13-2. The Tomcats got the goal back with a score of their own just under two minutes later, but Hiram sophomore JoLyn Grover (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) then recorded back-to-back goals on free-position shots with the last one coming with 10:54 left to play in the game narrowing the gap to 14-4. The two Grover goals would be all the scoring the rest of the way for the Terriers as Thiel added three more scores down the stretch to cruise to the 17-4 final.
In net for Hiram, sophomore Rebecca Greenhouse (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) started for the Terriers and played 51:38 making three saves in 18 shots faced. Junior Jocelyn Schmidt(Kent/Roosevelt) played the final 8:22 and had one save in three shots faced.
Hiram is scheduled to travel to Wilmington for a non-conference matchup against Wilmington College on Saturday, Mar. 22. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
