With the loss, the Terriers end their season with a 9-17 overall record. The Ladies improve to 19-7 overall and will advance to the semifinal round on Friday (Feb. 24).
Hiram scored the first points of the game on a jumper by senior guard Tiffany Shields (Bedford Heights/Bedford) to grab the early lead. But Kenyon then went on an 8-0 scoring run to take a 8-2 advantage and never trailed again. The Terriers hung around and battled to within three points on numerous occassions, including a 34-31 deficit at the 1:43 mark following a pair of free-throws by Shields. The Ladies tallied the final points of the half on a successful jumper and two free-throws to extend the margin to 38-31 at the intermission.
Kenyon took control in the second half as Hiram shot just 21.7 percent (five-of-23) from the field. The Ladies outscored the Terriers, 15-4, in the first 10:28 to take an 18-point lead, 53-35, with 9:32 left to play. Hiram scored five straight points to get to within 13 points, 53-40, but that would be as close as the Terriers would get as Kenyon quickly rebuilt its commanding lead en route to capturing the 69-52 victory.
Kenyon had three players score in double-figures led by Maureen Hirt with a game-high 23 points on seven-of-13 shooting (53.8 percent). She also grabbed eight rebounds. Kayla Ernst was second with 16 points and Katie Adlam added 13 points. Morgan Korinek added a game-high 13 rebounds in the win.
Shields was the lone Hiram player to score in double-digits with 13 points on four-of-16 shooting (25.0 percent) to go along with a team-high nine boards.
